Will your home-drink routine cost less than café purchases?

Start with the café purchases you would actually stop buying. Then count every home drink you plan to make, including extras, and the setup spending needed to make them.

User-entered cost planning, with no price feed or promise of savings.

YOUR ROUTINE, YOUR PRICES

Compare the whole routine.

Use one currency throughout. Enter a typical café drink price and a realistic weekly routine. There is no currency conversion. If your purchases vary, use an average you can explain.

Setup A

Drink base: tea, coffee, powder or concentrate

Keep both quantities in the selected unit. Changing the unit does not convert your numbers. Leave all three numbers blank to omit this ingredient.

Milk or an alternative, and another ingredient

Milk or alternative

Keep both quantities in the selected unit. Changing the unit does not convert your numbers. Leave all three numbers blank to omit this ingredient.

Other ingredient: sweetener, ice or another addition

Keep both quantities in the selected unit. Changing the unit does not convert your numbers. Leave all three numbers blank to omit this ingredient.

Enter your prices and routine, then calculate. No saving is assumed.

What the numbers mean

For each ingredient, divide its pack price by its pack quantity and multiply by the amount used per drink. Use the same unit for both quantities: for example grams with grams, not grams with teaspoons.

VISIBLE ARITHMETIC

Ingredient cost per drink = sum of (pack price ÷ pack quantity × amount used)

Waste-adjusted ingredient cost = ingredient cost ÷ (1 − unused percentage ÷ 100)

Home cost per week = home drinks per week × (waste-adjusted ingredients + other running cost per drink)

Home-plan total = new setup spending + weeks × (home cost per week + remaining café purchases × café price)

Café-only total = weeks × current café purchases per week × café price

Weekly difference = café purchases replaced × café price − home cost per week

Setup recovery time is new setup spending divided by a positive weekly difference. If that difference is zero or negative, there is no recovery on the entered routine. No infinity or guaranteed payback date is shown. Frequency can be an average, so the resulting weeks and replaced purchases need not be whole numbers.

The total allocates used ingredients and expected waste. It does not model the timing of full-pack purchases, usable inventory left at the end, or an equipment resale value. Setup plus one pack of each used ingredient is shown separately as a shopping subtotal; do not add it to the allocated total.

A partial-replacement example

These numbers are hypothetical and use unspecified currency units. Suppose you currently buy five café drinks per week at 5 units each. You make five drinks at home, but only three replace café purchases. With 2 units of ingredients per home drink, no waste, and 30 units of new setup spending, weekly home cost is 10 and the two remaining café drinks cost 10.

Over 12 weeks, the café-only baseline is 300. The home plan is 30 + 12 × 20 = 270, a difference of 30. The weekly difference before setup is 5, so the setup is recovered after about six weeks, or 18 replaced café purchases. Changing only waste to 20% makes ingredient cost 2 ÷ 0.8 = 2.5 per drink; the same setup then takes about 12 weeks to recover. This example is arithmetic, not a claim about typical prices or real savings.

Use the result before buying

If the plan costs more, try using equipment you own, buying a pack you can use, or changing the intended routine. You can also keep your café routine. The tool does not judge taste, caffeine, shelf life, safety, the value of your time or whether a recipe suits you.

Time, unentered energy and cleaning costs, equipment maintenance, interest, discounts and future price changes are excluded. Use realistic waste estimates; the tool does not predict spoilage. Follow the ingredient label and appliance instructions separately.

No firsthand product tests, ratings, affiliate links or traffic forecasts are claimed. The result may support buying nothing.
