English / Care checklist
Your glass food container is oven-safe. Is its lid?
Check the dish and its removable lid as two separate components before reheating. A lid supplied with oven-safe glass does not automatically share its oven permission. Identify both parts, then check the instructions for the appliance mode you intend to use.
Separate vessel/lid permission method; UK IKEA 804.449.46 and 092.690.65, US Pyrex current guidance. Unknown/vintage/international products excluded from product-specific verdicts.
Published .
The examples below are exact UK IKEA products and the current US Pyrex guidance. They demonstrate how to read paired instructions; they cannot identify an unknown, vintage or differently marketed container as safe.
Find both identities
Use the product number on the packaging, receipt, order history or the parts themselves to find the manufacturer's care page. Record the vessel and the lid separately, particularly if a lid was bought later or borrowed from another container.
A brand, range name or material description is a starting point, not the full identification. IKEA 365+ includes different lid materials, and those parts have different care instructions. A lid fitting neatly on a dish proves that it fits; it does not establish its heating permissions.
If you are unsure what a symbol means, look for the manufacturer's written instructions. Do not infer oven approval from a microwave or dishwasher mark, or test an unidentified lid by heating it.
Two IKEA 365+ examples
The UK square glass container set 804.449.46 has polypropylene lids. IKEA says the glass container is oven-safe, but the lid is not. The product is microwave-safe with the lid left ajar to release steam; the instructions also say not to close the lid during microwave use.
The UK rectangular glass/bamboo combination 092.690.65 pairs glass container 703.591.99 with bamboo lid 503.819.07. IKEA permits oven and microwave use for the vessel and excludes the lid from both. Its statement that the bamboo lid withstands up to 100°C does not cancel those exclusions. It also says to wash that lid by hand.
On small screens, scroll the table sideways.
| Exact UK product | Glass vessel | Supplied lid |
|---|---|---|
| IKEA 365+ 804.449.46 | Oven-safe; microwave-safe | No oven use. In microwave, leave ajar; do not close. |
| IKEA 365+ 092.690.65 | Oven-safe; microwave-safe | No oven or microwave use |
Apply a row only if it matches your exact parts and their current instructions. The table is not permission for every container sold under the same family name, and it does not add a grill or broiler approval that these care statements do not provide.
US Pyrex distinguishes the dish, plastic cover and heating method
The US Pyrex FAQ says plastic covers must not be used in conventional or convection ovens. It allows those covers for microwave use and storage, subject to its safety and usage instructions.
For its glass bakeware, that FAQ describes completely preheated conventional or convection oven use under the full safeguards. It specifically prohibits broiler use and other listed direct-heat arrangements. A dish's oven approval therefore does not mean that every heating mode in an oven is allowed.
These statements concern the manufacturer's US guidance. They are not a safety identification for all international Pyrex products or old glassware. Follow the instructions for the product you own, including preparation, handling and temperature-change restrictions. A short permission table cannot replace those safeguards.
Make a two-part heating note
Before putting a container into an appliance, fill in this small checklist from its documentation:
- Vessel: full product identity and care link.
- Lid: full product identity and care link, including any replacement part.
- Heating mode: microwave, conventional/convection oven or grill/broiler. For a combination appliance, record the selected mode.
- Permission for each part: whether that exact mode is allowed, plus any required lid position or removal.
- Other safeguards: temperature limits, preheating, handling and condition requirements stated for your product.
An explicit exclusion settles that part of the decision. An absent or ambiguous instruction leaves a question for the manufacturer; it is not a reason to borrow approval from the other component.
Choose a documented arrangement before heating
If the lid is excluded from your planned mode, keep it out of that appliance. If the recipe needs a cover, use a separate covering arrangement explicitly suitable for both the cooking method and the dish. Do not replace one unknown lid with another unknown cover.
If you cannot identify the vessel either, transfer the food to equipment whose instructions you can verify. For the IKEA square set above, the care page also says not to use parts showing cracks, chips or surface damage.
Already melted a lid or damaged a vessel? Stop treating the original care permissions as an answer about the damaged product or exposed food. This guide cannot determine whether affected food is safe or prescribe a cleanup that restores the container.
