LECHUZA at MIN? Identify the planter before refilling
MIN shows the reservoir level, not whether the whole root zone is dry. The next step depends on the irrigation system, the plant’s establishment stage and the instructions for that planter. A classic planter, a DELTINI wick planter and a CUBE Color herb pot need different checks.
English identification-first guide for UK/European LECHUZA owners; exact examples CUBICO Color 30 13130, DELTINI and CUBE Color 14 13380, plus named outdoor leaflet exceptions.

Match the name and the hardware
Write down the model and size from the packaging or product record. Then use LECHUZA’s downloads index to find the matching assembly and watering instructions. The index lists model-specific documents as well as general instructions.
On small screens, scroll the table sideways.
| Example checked | System or setup to recognise | Instruction to start with |
|---|---|---|
| CUBICO Color 30, item 13130 | Original self-watering system with a removable liner and reservoir | Classic planting and watering guidance, plus the CUBICO 30 assembly sheet |
| DELTINI | Wick planter planted in LECHUZA-PON | The DELTINI watering leaflet |
| CUBE Color 14, item 13380 | A watering stick inserted into the plant’s existing grow pot | The CUBE Color 14/16 instructions from the downloads index |
Terminology alone can be confusing: the CUBE Color page uses both “stick” and “wick” wording. Identify the actual setup. A plant remaining in its grow pot with a stick underneath is different from a plant repotted into a PON-filled liner.
Newly planted classic system: check establishment first
The official classic-system guide describes an initial growing-in phase with watering from above before relying on the reservoir. Its general guidance gives 12 weeks; the planting and watering leaflet extends this for very large planters or very small root balls. This is not a timetable to apply to every LECHUZA system.
The official FAQ describes checking the substrate just below the surface during establishment and watering when it is dry. It also gives a reservoir-uptake test: fill the reservoir halfway and watch over the following days. A falling level is the manufacturer’s sign that the roots have reached the supply; if uptake is not established, continue the growing-in routine rather than assuming that a date on the calendar proves readiness.
Record the planting date and whether that test has actually succeeded. “Three months old” and “already drawing from the reservoir” are different pieces of information.
Established classic system: MIN starts another check
The FAQ warns against immediately refilling at MIN because moisture remains in the granulate. It describes a variable dry phase depending on plant type, position, temperature, humidity and substrate requirements. The classic guide gives two to ten days as general guidance, with plant-specific variation.
Use that instruction with your plant and setup; it is not a rule to leave every plant without water for a fixed number of days. Check the relevant moisture and plant-care instructions before refilling. When refill is appropriate, use the filling shaft and the level specified in the matched instructions rather than automatically adding water whenever the float reaches MIN.
DELTINI and herb grow pots have their own instructions
The DELTINI leaflet specifies a wick system and LECHUZA-PON planting. It describes slow watering from above, with a half-full reservoir for low-water-use plants such as the orchids and cacti covered by that leaflet. Its MIN section also describes a dry phase, with a separate exception for orchids whose roots have not reached the reservoir. Those details belong to that leaflet’s setup; they do not establish one routine for every wick planter or every orchid.
CUBE Color 14 uses a stick in the grow pot, without the repotting step. Do not import the classic planter’s root-growing countdown into that arrangement. Match the stick installation and watering directions to the CUBE instructions, then check the needs of the plant actually in the pot.
Outdoor instructions can change the answer
The BACINO, BALCONERA and NIDO leaflet, printed pages 26–27, describes a dry phase of two to three days in cool weather and says it can be skipped on hot days for those named planters. Do not transfer that exception to an indoor DELTINI or another model. Check the outdoor drainage instructions for the exact planter too.
Keep a small record for each planter
A note per pot avoids treating several different systems as one watering job. Copy this list and fill it in when MIN first appears:
- Model, size and irrigation setup:
- Plant and planting substrate:
- Planting date and establishment test result, if applicable:
- Date MIN was noticed:
- Moisture observation and relevant room or weather conditions:
- Instruction consulted and next check:
- Date, method and level of the eventual refill:
This is an observation log, not a watering calculator. If the plant is struggling or the indicator behaviour does not match the instructions, describe the exact setup to LECHUZA support or a plant-care adviser rather than repeatedly topping up by guesswork.
