Schwalbe Clik Valve: can your old pump inflate it and measure pressure?
Check two capabilities separately before changing a bicycle valve: whether your pump can put air in, and whether its gauge can read tyre pressure with that connection. A head that inflates a Clik Valve does not automatically establish a supported pressure-measurement setup.
English; UK/European terminology. Distinguish inflation from pressure measurement; exact Schwalbe adapter 3526, SKS EMP + CLIK TEC 12068, marked AIRCHECKER 2.0 and current Airmax Pro 6010.02 examples.

Identify the head you actually own
Record the pump brand, model and head type. For a combination head, identify which opening or setting is Presta/SV and which is Schrader/AV. Then note how it connects: pushed on, clamped with a lever, or screwed directly onto the valve. “Presta compatible” alone leaves out the attachment method.
Schwalbe’s current German Clik Valve FAQ allows ordinary clamping SV/Presta heads to inflate SCV, but not to check pressure. Its mini-pump advice distinguishes compatible clamping heads from screw-on heads. Inflation permission alone is not gauge approval.
Schwalbe recommends an SCV adapter and specifies that its pump-head adapter 3526 needs a Schrader-compatible pump. Keep that part number separate from SKS CLIK TEC item 12068 below. The separate adapter route uses the pump’s Schrader opening. Schwalbe’s North American instructions describe securing the Clik adapter in an AV/car-valve head by clamping or screwing it in. Screwing an adapter into the correct pump opening is different from screwing a Presta head directly onto the Clik Valve.
A bounded compatibility table
On small screens, scroll the table sideways.
| Your connection | Inflation | Pressure check |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary push-on or clamp-on Presta/SV head, without Clik adapter | Schwalbe supports this inflation route. | Its ordinary-SV warning applies. Do not treat the inflation claim as gauge approval. |
| Ordinary screw-on Presta/SV head directly on Clik Valve | Excluded from direct compatibility. | Do not rely on this setup. |
| Schwalbe SCV pump-head adapter 3526 with a compatible Schrader/AV pump | Manufacturer-described conversion route. | Confirm the exact pump and gauge arrangement. |
| SKS EMP with SKS CLIK TEC adapter, item 12068 | SKS explicitly supports the combination. | SKS confirms an immediate pressure display. |
| Current Schwalbe Airmax Pro, product 6010.02, with supplied SCV adapter | A gauge, not an inflation pump. | Its product specification includes Clik Valve. |
| SKS AIRCHECKER 2.0 with packaging explicitly marked Clik compatible | A gauge, not an inflation pump. | Only the marked packages have the stated SKS approval. |
| Older or unidentified Airmax Pro or AIRCHECKER | A gauge, not an inflation pump. | A shared product name is insufficient; confirm the generation and packaging. |
| Another electric pump, CO₂ inflator or standalone gauge | Not confirmed by this guide. | Ask about the exact model, head and adapter; do not transfer another device’s approval. |
The table records manufacturer support rather than results from a pump test. A missing approval does not prove that every possible combination fails. It means this guide cannot establish that combination as your measurement method.
The named electric-pump example: SKS EMP
SKS’s EMP support answer, updated 12 May 2026, permits the CLIK TEC adapter directly on the mini pump or screwed onto its extension hose. It explicitly confirms pressure display in both arrangements. That is more specific evidence than a general assertion that electric pumps work.
The CLIK TEC adapter product page identifies item 12068 and the Schrader-opening route for compatible mini and floor-pump heads. Check that item and your pump model before buying. A similarly named accessory, or a different electric pump, is not the same documented combination.
The gauge example: identify the Airmax Pro generation
Schwalbe’s current Airmax Pro listing identifies product 6010.02 and includes Clik Valve among its supported valves, with an SCV adapter supplied. Its stated measurement range reaches 145 psi/10 bar. That range is a gauge specification, not a pressure recommendation for your bicycle.
If you already own an Airmax Pro, identify its generation and accessories rather than applying the current 6010.02 listing to an older device. Ask Schwalbe if that identification is unclear. No gauge accuracy was measured for this guide.
For SKS, the AIRCHECKER compatibility answer, updated 11 May 2026, limits approval to AIRCHECKER 2.0 packages explicitly marked suitable for Clik Valve. The model name alone does not settle which package you own. This is another supported gauge route, so a warning about ordinary SV pump heads should not be expanded into “all gauges fail”.
Check the valve conversion separately
Pump compatibility does not settle whether a conversion insert fits your tube. Schwalbe’s North American FAQ requires a replaceable Presta insert. It also distinguishes incompatible TPU/plastic stems from updated Aerothan tubes with aluminium stems. Check the actual stem and the instructions for your exact conversion kit; “Aerothan” or “TPU” alone does not identify the hardware generation.
For someone with an older pump and several wheels, this creates two records: the valve hardware on each wheel, and the supported pump connection. Buying a new head cannot solve an incompatible insert. Replacing the valve cannot turn an undocumented gauge arrangement into a documented one.
A check to complete before relying on it away from home
- Write down your valve/tube and pump model, plus any adapter item number.
- Confirm the manufacturer’s inflation route for that exact head type.
- Choose a separately confirmed pressure-reading arrangement. Leave this field unresolved if your documentation only discusses inflation.
- Follow the relevant installation instructions and check the assembled connection at home before a ride.
- Pack the required adapter with the pump you will actually carry.
Record your result as two answers: “Inflation route: ________” and “Pressure-reading route: ________.” If the second answer remains unknown, resolve it with the manufacturer or a cycle shop before depending on that gauge. Do not create a universal correction factor for an old gauge from an unrelated reviewer’s setup.
Source scope
Manufacturer information was checked on 10 October 2026, including the current German Schwalbe FAQ and exact SKS compatibility answers. The previously inaccessible English FAQ is not used as verification for the revised claims. Unnamed electric pumps, CO₂ devices and gauge combinations remain unverified. No hands-on comparison or performance ranking is claimed.
