One racing wheel for PS5 and Xbox: choose the base, wheel and game version together
Yes, a carefully chosen racing-wheel setup can be used with both PS5 and Xbox. Start with the PlayStation-compatible base, then add the compatible Xbox-licensed steering wheel or hub. The correct pedals and connection route still matter, and each game needs its own check.

Below are two manufacturer-documented combinations: a Logitech RS50 build and a Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro build. They are concrete component examples, not a ranking or hands-on review. “Both consoles” means using the setup with either console in turn, not controlling two consoles simultaneously.
The shopping examples use official US pages. They do not establish stock, warranty coverage, delivered prices or suitable power plugs in another country.
Start with the part you already own
First record the exact base edition, wheel or hub, pedals and quick release. Then use this decision path:
On small screens, scroll the table sideways.
| What you already have | What to investigate |
|---|---|
| RS50 Base in the PlayStation/PC edition | An Xbox/PC RS Wheel Hub with a compatible rim can add the Xbox side |
| RS50 Base in the PC-only edition | An Xbox hub does not supply the missing PlayStation capability; the dual-console build below uses the PS/PC base |
| Gran Turismo DD Pro base | A compatible Xbox-licensed wheel can supply Xbox support; check both quick-release halves |
| Fanatec base without PlayStation licensing | A PlayStation-looking rim is not enough; the base must supply PlayStation support |
| A different wheel or mixed-brand accessories | Check each exact connection before reusing it; these two baskets do not certify the existing equipment |

Fanatec's labels deserve particular attention. “Xbox Ready” requires a compatible Xbox-licensed wheel; “PS Ready” requires a PlayStation-licensed base. “Ready” describes a condition you still have to satisfy.
Logitech example: build around the PlayStation RS50 base
Use these specific components together:
On small screens, scroll the table sideways.
| Required part | Exact choice | Why it belongs in this basket |
|---|---|---|
| Wheel base | RS50 Base, PlayStation/PC | Supplies PlayStation support; its page explicitly documents pairing with an Xbox-compatible RS/PRO wheel |
| Wheel electronics and controls | RS Wheel Hub, Xbox/PC | Supplies the Xbox-compatible hub; do not select the PC-only edition |
| Rim | RS Round Wheel | Attaches to the RS Wheel Hub; the rim and hub are separate purchases |
| Pedals | RS Pedals | Complete two-pedal choice for this example |
| Mounting | Table Clamp for RS50, if using a suitable desk | The bare RS50 base does not include this clamp; a compatible rig mount is the alternative |
The base's package lists its power supply, USB cable and mounting hardware. The Logitech configurator separately flags that the bare base lacks a clamp and the RS Wheel Hub lacks a rim. Check those omissions when comparing a component basket with a bundle.
Connect the pedals through the wheel
The RS Pedals setup guide, printed page 5 specifies the supplied USB cable going to a compatible Logitech wheel such as RS50. On a console, the pedals must connect through the Logitech wheel rather than directly to a console USB port.
For this basket the connection path is:
RS Pedals → RS50 base with Xbox/PC hub and rim → the console being used.
The separate Logitech Racing Adapter is not required for that RS Pedals-to-RS50 connection. The manual describes it for connecting these pedals to older Logitech wheels. Do not add it as a general console-unlocking accessory.
For desk use, check the clamp's stated fit and the desk's suitability. The clamp page describes surfaces up to 50 mm thick; that is not a strength assessment of your furniture. A mounting choice must suit the wheel's forces and the manufacturer's instructions.
Fanatec example: GT DD Pro QR2 bundle plus WRC wheel
This example starts with a bundle so the base, power supply, pedals and cables are specified together:
On small screens, scroll the table sideways.
| Purchase | Exact choice | Contents or role needed here |
|---|---|---|
| Base/pedal bundle | Gran Turismo DD Pro 5 Nm, SKU CRD-9020007-US | PlayStation-licensed base, QR2 Lite Base-Side Type-C, two pedals, pedal RJ12 cable, console USB cable, 5 Nm supply and table clamp |
| Xbox-compatible wheel | CSL Elite Steering Wheel WRC, SKU CRD-9020016-WW | Xbox One/Series X|S support; current package lists pre-installed QR2 Lite Wheel-Side |
Use the WRC wheel with that base for the cross-console configuration. The GT steering wheel included in the bundle is an extra; it is not the part supplying Xbox compatibility. Do not assume every used or old-stock WRC wheel arrives with the same QR2 attachment. Verify the seller's actual unit, especially if a listing shows QR1 hardware.
The base's compatibility list permits CSL wheels subject to the correct quick release. Fanatec's WRC guide confirms that pairing the WRC with a Sony-licensed base allows PlayStation use. Its Xbox compatibility guide explicitly includes Gran Turismo DD Pro and requires matching quick-release halves.
Keep the pedals on the base connection
Use the bundle's RJ12 cable between its pedals and the base, then connect the base to the active console:
Bundle pedals → GT DD Pro base with WRC wheel → the console being used.
Fanatec's Xbox guidance says compatible pedals and other peripherals must connect through the base. Standalone USB pedal connections are a PC route. A USB plug that physically fits the console does not establish support.
The bundle already includes a table clamp. Check the manual and your mounting surface before use; if hard-mounting, verify the rig's pattern and required fasteners rather than assuming the table-clamp basket covers that installation.
Check the game edition before buying hardware
Hardware platform support and a game's integration are different questions. Logitech's RS50 game-settings list gives three useful examples:
On small screens, scroll the table sideways.
| Game and platform | Published RS50 mode guidance | Purchase or setup consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Assetto Corsa Competizione on PlayStation | PRO mode for the PS5 version; PS4 version explicitly unsupported | Owning a PS5 does not make the installed PS4 game edition suitable |
| Forza Horizon 5 | PRO on PC; RS on PlayStation and Xbox | Recheck the platform's row when moving the setup |
| Forza Motorsport (2023) | PRO on PC; RS on Xbox | Do not apply the row to older Motorsport releases |
These are Logitech's published conditions for RS50, not Fanatec test results. Choose the mode before launching the game. Logitech also says some unlisted games may work without having been specifically tested; absence from the list alone is not proof of incompatibility.
For the Fanatec combination, separately check the game developer's supported hardware and Fanatec's current setup guidance. The three rows above do not establish a Fanatec game matrix. Buttons, displays and effects can have game- or console-specific limits even when steering and pedals are recognised.
Stop the purchase if a required part is still vague
Before paying, you should be able to name:
- The exact PlayStation-compatible base edition
- The Xbox-compatible wheel or hub and its matching rim, where separate
- Both quick-release parts, where applicable
- The pedal model, cable and console connection route
- A suitable clamp or rig mount
- Your exact game title, platform and edition
Check the manufacturer's current firmware and setup instructions before installation. This comparison does not pin a tested firmware build or promise that every feature works after every game update.
A controller you already own remains a sensible way to play while any essential compatibility answer is unresolved. Buy the complete, documented combination once those answers are clear, rather than relying on a universal-adapter claim or a console logo on only one part.
