Yoto 4th generation / Decision guide

Yoto’s Green Button: what plays offline, and what does “20 titles” mean?

On Yoto Player 4th Gen and Yoto Mini 4th Gen, the Green Button offers two favourites lists, one for day and one for night, with up to 20 titles in each. That is a list limit, not a promise that every item in it works without Wi-Fi. Compatible audio downloads; streaming items such as radio stations and podcasts still need internet. Yoto’s current explanation

For a trip, the useful question is not just “Have I added it?” It is “Can this particular item play on this player when it is offline?”

A title is not the same question as a track

Yoto describes the limit in titles. Do not read it as a universal limit of 20 individual songs across everything your player can hold. Nor should you use the favourites limit as a count of your entire purchased library.

Think of the Green Button as a chosen listening menu. Your job is to choose what belongs on that menu for the particular day or night, rather than trying to squeeze the whole library into it.

Check three separate things before leaving

  1. Is the item in the list you intend to use? Check both day and night favourites. A bedtime item in the other list may not be where your child expects it.
  2. Is it downloaded audio or a stream? A familiar radio station appearing in favourites does not make it an offline recording.
  3. Does the item actually play without the connection you will lose? Once setup is complete, try the intended listening arrangement without Wi-Fi before relying on it away from home. This is a suggested check for your player, not a test we have performed.

Keep the first item in each list deliberate. Yoto says pressing the Green Button while nothing is playing starts the first item in the current list. Choosing an offline-ready favourite there can make a trip less confusing than discovering that the expected first item requires a connection. Green Button controls and downloads

Do we still need the cards?

The Green Button can give access to favourites without having a physical card to hand, but it does not make cards obsolete. Some children may prefer choosing a visible card; others may find a short favourites list easier. You do not need to treat either preference as a reason to replace a working routine.

Before buying specifically for an existing collection, check compatibility with that collection. As checked on 19 October 2026, Yoto still described interactive-card support on fourth-generation players as forthcoming. Do not assume a promised future feature is already available. What this guide does not establish

This is a documentation-based explanation of the fourth-generation players, not a hands-on review or a claim that an older player needs replacing. We have not tested download completion, a particular podcast or a firmware version. If an item fails the offline check, use Yoto’s current support information for that item and player rather than assuming the whole library is unavailable.

For travel, a small list of favourites you have checked is more useful than a full list whose behaviour is uncertain.
