Which part of a Levoit filter can you wash?

For the US Vital 100 and Vital 200S-P examples here, the washable part is the removable pre-filter. The main and activated-carbon layers are not washable. Identify the complete model name and the removable layer before putting anything under a tap.

Start with the model name, then the layer

“Levoit 200S-P” is an incomplete identification: the official manual index lists both Core 200S-P and Vital 200S-P. Vital 100, Vital 100S and Vital 200S-P are also different models. Use the label on your device rather than shortening its name in a search.

This guide compares the US Vital 100 and Vital 200S-P manuals. It does not transfer their washable-layer permission to Core filters or another model. If the physical parts do not match the selected manual, stop and identify the device and replacement filter before cleaning.

Follow the correct pre-filter method

Vital 100: peel off the washable layer

Unplug before cleaning. The manual describes removing loose dust with a soft brush or vacuum hose, carefully separating the pre-filter, rinsing that layer gently under running water and drying it completely before reattaching it. Washing the cartridge as one piece is not this procedure.

Its table suggests vacuuming the pre-filter every 2–4 weeks and washing every 1–2 months; the surrounding text describes monthly pre-filter cleaning. Those are maintenance starting points for this model, not permission to wash its main or carbon layers.

Vital 200S-P: remove the separate pre-filter

Unplug before cleaning. Remove the pre-filter using its tabs, vacuum its surface, then follow the manual's water, mild-detergent and soft-cloth washing method. Avoid abrasive cleaning or vigorous scrubbing. Air-dry it completely before reinstalling. The manual gives a 2–4-week pre-filter cleaning interval.

Keep the Main / Activated Carbon Filter out of that washing process. The two removable components are not interchangeable maintenance jobs just because they sit behind the same front cover.

A filter reminder is a reason to inspect

Both manuals describe the indicator as a check reminder; it does not automatically mean the filter needs replacement that day. Their replacement guidance also differs: Vital 100 gives 6–8 months, while Vital 200S-P gives 12 months. Both allow earlier or later replacement according to use and conditions.

Use the relevant manual's condition checks, including changes in airflow, noise or odor and the filter's condition. An apparently clean surface is not a measurement of remaining filtration performance. Equally, a reminder alone does not identify which layer has collected visible hair or dust.

A filter reminder is a reason to inspect
ActionWhat it changesWhat to record
Clean the approved pre-filterRemoves accumulated material from that reusable layer.Layer cleaned, date and whether it was fully dry before return.
Replace the specified main/carbon filterChanges the physical replacement component.Exact replacement part and installation date.
Reset the indicator after replacementRestarts the device's reminder record.Replacement confirmed and model-specific reset followed.

A reset cannot wash, repair or replace the physical filter. Follow the reset section for your model after replacement; do not use a cleared light as evidence that an old cartridge has been restored. Flipping the cartridge is likewise not a documented substitute for replacing it.

Before reassembling

  • Does the full model name match the manual?
  • Was only the expressly washable pre-filter rinsed?
  • Is that layer completely dry?
  • Are the main/carbon component and housing free of wash water?
  • Are the layers installed in the manual's orientation, rather than reversed to hide the used surface?
  • If a new filter was fitted, was its packaging removed and the correct reset completed?

If the wrong layer was washed or symptoms remain after the permitted maintenance, describe the exact model, layer and action to Levoit support. This guide does not provide a drying method that makes an accidentally washed main/carbon filter usable again.

US manufacturer manuals and model index checked 10 October 2026. No purifier performance test, medical benefit or universal filter lifespan is claimed.
